About UsFor the past 28 years, through my company, Willabeth Capital Corporation, I have been involved in financing businesses either through raising equity or arranging debt. I’ve done this for over 100 clients as well as for my own enterprises. I’ve taken companies public, completed mergers, acquisitions, leveraged buy-outs and salvaged companies that were in the bankruptcy process. I’ve done this with start up ventures as well as small and medium sized businesses in dozens of industry sectors. Business has always fascinated me from the time I was 12 years old and had a paper route. From a very early age I was eager to set out and start a business that I could grow into something that would make me proud. My first few forays into the world of business were disastrous. There was a poster business that failed to sell enough products and left me deep in debt to a bank. This was followed by a software business that just couldn’t seem to close enough deals with customers. Fortunately some of my subsequent businesses have been highly successful and more than made up for the early disasters. With each enterprise I learned some very valuable lessons. These are lessons I want to pass onto you. I had a dream – to own a multi-million dollar company that would ensure I and my family were financially independent. That may be your dream too. It’s a worthy goal. After high school I won a military scholarship that enabled me to get a university education at McGill University in Montreal . After graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, I started my career as a Military Officer where, among other things, I was taught a variety of battlefield commando tactics. Over the years I adapted these highly successful commando tactics to the "battle" for investment capital. Several years after I left the military and finished my training as a Chartered Accountant (equivalent to a CPA in the U.S. ), I became involved with an entrepreneur who operated a venture capital company for high tech ventures. That entrepreneur, Michael Cowpland, founder of COREL Corporation which became one of largest software companies in the world, taught me many lessons about how to turn a vision into reality. Nothing was impossible and the bigger the vision the better. He brought this insight into each investment we made. As the fund grew, so too did the frantic pace of activity with hopeful entrepreneurs. Patterns began to emerge regarding which plans and entrepreneurs would be funded. It became clear that something unique was needed to catch the attention of the venture capitalists and every investment required THE ONE KEY INGREDIENT if it was to be successful. The venture capital fund invested in many local and international high tech deals. Many of these were done in partnership with other prominent funds including Hambrecht & Quist in San Francisco and Helix Ventures in Toronto . It was a world of big money, excited entrepreneurs and big dreams. Many of these dreams came true for the entrepreneurs who got funding but many, many more didn't make it to the starting line because they didn't have: THE CRITICAL INGREDIENT that it takes to get financed. They never achieved the wealth, fame and glory of the others. What did they do wrong? What was the essential difference between the ones that got financed and those which were passed over? Why did one entrepreneur get support while another failed? Keep reading and I'll tell you where to get the answers to these and many other critical financing questions. My insights into corporate financing don't stop on the venture capital side of the boardroom table. I had a dream of my own and eventually I grabbed my chance to become an Entrepreneur. I was then placed squarely on the other side of the financing table. Instead of reviewing and recommending who would get money, I was the one being reviewed. It was quite a shock, and my stress level went waaaay up. Using the knowledge I had gained while working as a venture capitalist, my accounting training as a C.A. and the tactics I learned in the military, I set out to get the financing my new company needed. Barely making each payroll and having mortgaged everything I owned and a lot of what I didn't, I continued to raise small amounts of capital. My baptism as an Entrepreneur nearly drowned me and my family. Despite this, I stuck to it and succeeded beyond even my own expectations, taking the company public and becoming a "paper multi-millionaire". I also attained an in-depth understanding of the obstacles that an entrepreneur must overcome to get the capital they need. In subsequent years, I continued to amass a growing arsenal of effective financing techniques for use on the business battlefield. I refined these techniques of corporate financing and earn substantial fees by assisting others in obtaining their financing. Over the past 15 years I've raised in excess of $100 Million Dollars in scores of innovative financing deals. I've now decided to share my knowledge of corporate financing with other entrepreneurs in a unique e-book entitled "Commando Financing...
